Abomination in Jigawa as son sets father ablaze, police launch urgent probe

DUTSE, NIGERIA, April 5, 2026 (NPA) — The Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed investigations into a tragic incident in Kazaure Local Government Area, where a 60-year-old man was allegedly set ablaze by his son at Lokon Malamai, Magama Quarters. Preliminary findings suggest petrol was poured on the victim before he was ignited, and police have launched surveillance and investigative measures to establish the full circumstances.
SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, Police Public Relations Officer, said in a statement issued Sunday: “Preliminary investigations revealed that, on the same date at about 0600hrs, an unidentified person poured a reasonable quantity of a flammable item, suspected to be petrol, on the victim’s body and set him ablaze.
In-depth surveillance and investigation led to the arrest of one Kabiru Nuhu ‘m’ age 27yrs of the same address, who happened to be the biological son of the victim with several fresh fire burns and wounds on his forehead, arms, and toes.”
Adam explained that the victim was rushed to the hospital and later referred to a higher medical center for intensive treatment, but sadly succumbed to his injuries.
He noted that the suspect is in custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Dutse, for discreet investigation and prosecution. Commissioner of Police, CP Haruna Alaba Yahaya, condemned the act in strong terms, assuring the public that justice will be served. He urged residents to resolve disputes peacefully, report domestic violence, and cooperate with police as investigations continue.
