Uloko Ibe

Uloko Ibe was born in Aberu, Ijebu East, Yorubaland, in Nigeria’s southwest, but grew up in Igboland, where his childhood at Nwezenyi Junction, Igbeagu-Izzi, Ebonyi State was steeped in the wisdom of elders, proverbs, palm wine, and kolanuts.

His grandmother gave him the name Nwophoke Nwizi, a title rich in cultural depth and identity.

Those formative evenings — whether during age-grade communal farm efforts, where peers rotated work across each member’s land, or in regular visits to elders filled with storytelling and cultural exchange — profoundly shaped his creative voice. They instilled in him a lifelong passion for narratives that inspire courage, awaken hope, and celebrate humanity.

He attended Junction Primary School, Igbeagu, and was a pioneer student of Community Secondary School, Igbeagu, before pursuing higher education.

A graduate of Economics from Lagos State University and an alumnus of the Enterprise Development Centre, Pan-Atlantic University, Uloko combines intellectual depth with grassroots sensibilities.

His professional journey spans writing, reporting, filmmaking, branding, and communications, alongside advocacy for social justice and cultural preservation.

Uloko is the author of The Spears of Motherland, The Senior Prisoner, and his young readers’ offering Rima in the Biggest Circle.

He also co-wrote and produced the Nollywood film #SLUTTERHOUSE, which confronts the menace of human trafficking from Africa to Europe.

His creative projects explore themes of cultural evolution, governance, resilience, environmental responsibility, and the moral struggles of postcolonial Africa.

Beyond literature and film, Uloko has contributed to publications including Sahara Reporters and The Sun Newspapers, and is the founder and editor of Newpost Africa, a news platform amplifying African voices at home and in the diaspora.

For Uloko, storytelling is not only entertainment but also a tool for healing, awakening hope, preserving cultural memory, and inspiring social transformation.

Deeply committed to youth mentoring, volunteerism, and humanitarian initiatives, he has supported programs such as The Lady Mechanic Initiative, empowering indigent girls with automotive repair skills.

He enjoys travelling to historical landmarks, playing table tennis and football, repairing automobiles, and spending time with his wife, fellow writer Lindruky Rukevwe, and their children — Chidubem, Chidimaro, and Chimamanda.
