LAGOS, NIGERIA, 01 April 2026 (NPA) — A tragic early morning collision between a Honda Jeep and a Toyota Coaster Bus on Wednesday has claimed one life, according to an on-site video update released by officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
The crash occurred while descending the Mile 12 Bridge inward, Ketu, throwing commuters into panic and disrupting the morning rush. Although the precise cause of the collision has not yet been determined, investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
LASTMA confirmed in a statement that emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene to document the accident and provide support. Officials also moved quickly to ease traffic congestion, noting that while the crash had only a minor impact on traffic flow, the tragedy underscored the dangers of early morning driving in Lagos.
The statement reads: “A collision occurred descending Mile 12 Bridge inward Ketu, involving a Honda Jeep and a Toyota Coaster Bus, resulting in one casualty. Emergency responders are on site for documentation, and our officials are working to manage the traffic situation, which currently has only a minor impact on flow.”
The incident has reignited public concern over road safety in Lagos, where heavy traffic, speeding, and reckless driving often combine to deadly effect. Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly during peak hours, as investigations continue into the Mile 12 crash.
