Mbah hails Asogwa’s victory in Enugu by-election, says victory affirms APC dominance

ENUGU, Nigeria (NPA) — Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has congratulated Chief Ikeje Asogwa on his victory in the Enugu North Senatorial District by-election, describing the outcome as a strong endorsement of the senator-elect and his political platform.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Asogwa the winner of the by-election conducted on Saturday to fill the seat formerly occupied by Senator Okey Ezea, who died after a brief illness in November 2025.
According to the results announced by the Returning Officer, Professor Christian Ezeibe, Asogwa polled 162,360 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Nestor Ezeme of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who secured 9,299 votes.
The Enugu North Senatorial District comprises Nsukka, Igbo-Eze North, Igbo-Eze South, Uzo-Uwani, Igbo-Etiti and Udenu local government areas.
In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Dan Nwomeh, Governor Mbah described the outcome as a “landmark victory” and a vote of confidence in Asogwa’s leadership and service to the people.
“If anybody was in doubt, the landslide victory proves, beyond rhetoric, that our people have spoken clearly through the ballot,” the governor said.
He described Asogwa as a committed public servant who has distinguished himself through service to the people and the state.
Mbah said the senator-elect’s victory would strengthen representation for the district and enhance collaboration aimed at attracting greater development to the area.
“On behalf of the Government and good people of Enugu State, I congratulate Chief Ikeje Asogwa on this resounding victory,” he said.
“There is no doubt that his presence at the centre will strengthen partnerships and facilitate greater delivery of democratic dividends to the people.”
The governor also thanked voters across the senatorial district for their peaceful participation in the electoral process.
