Ogun Police deploy School Protection Squad as schools resume

ABEOKUTA, Nigeria (NPA) — The Ogun State Police Command has deployed its School Protection Squad across the state as schools resume academic activities, with some institutions scheduled to reopen later.

The deployment is part of the strategic policing agenda of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, focused on proactive, preventive and community-oriented policing.

In a statement issued on September 7, 2026, by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babasuyi, the police said the initiative was aimed at strengthening security around schools and protecting pupils, teachers and other school personnel.

The squad will also secure school infrastructure, gather actionable intelligence and ensure swift responses to emerging security threats.

As part of the initiative, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, recently received an executive delegation of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Safe School Club, led by its State Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Babatunde Lawal, at the Command Headquarters in Abeokuta.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration among the police, school authorities, parents, students and community stakeholders to identify, report and prevent security threats within and around schools.

Ojajuni commended the initiative and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the partnership, while charging members of the School Protection Squad to remain vigilant, maintain close engagement with school communities and respond promptly to credible security information.

He said the Command remained committed to anticipating threats, preventing incidents and providing swift protective intervention.

The Commissioner urged school proprietors, administrators, teachers, parents, students and members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons, vehicles, movements or activities around schools.

The Command urged residents to follow its “See Something, Say Something” directive, stressing that early reporting could help prevent security incidents.
