Kano Police tighten security ahead of Eid-el-Fitr in the face of rising terror threats

KANO, NIGERIA (NPA) — March 19, 2026 — The Kano State Police Command has called on residents to remain peaceful and law-abiding during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, assuring that robust security measures have been deployed across the state.
In a statement on Thursday, the Command warned that unlawful acts will be dealt with decisively and urged parents, guardians, and the public to cooperate with security agencies to ensure a safe and peaceful festive period.
Tensions remain high as the holy month of Ramadan draws to a close, particularly in northern Nigeria, where terrorist groups such as Boko Haram and ISWAP have intensified attacks.
Just last week, Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (OFR), after briefing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over security situation in the northeast, cautioned in a video obtained by Newpost Africa that terrorists often escalate offensives during Ramadan, driven by the belief that dying in the period guarantees paradise.
On Monday, March 16, 2026, Maiduguri in northeastern Nigeria was rocked by three bomb blasts that claimed at least 23 lives and injuring more than 100. However, by Wednesday, the Nigerian Military struck back, killing no fewer than 80 terrorists in a major counteroffensive.
