Burkina Faso President Traoré felicitates Muslims on Maouloud, calls for unity

OUAGADOUGOU, Burkina Faso (NPA) — President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, has felicitated Muslim faithful across the country on the occasion of the celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

In a statement issued by the Presidency of Faso on Wednesday, Traoré urged Burkinabè to use the occasion for reflection and prayer while strengthening values of love, tolerance and brotherhood.

The President also called for greater social cohesion and peaceful coexistence, saying unity remained an important source of strength for the country as it confronts its current challenges.

The statement read in part: “On the occasion of the celebration of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), I extend my warmest wishes of peace and health to the entire Muslim community, to all Burkinabè, and to everyone living on the free land of Burkina Faso.

“I hope that the remembrance of the birth of the Messenger of Islam will be for all of us a time of meditation and prayer to strengthen our intrinsic values of love, tolerance, and brotherhood.

“In these moments of communion, I urge every Burkinabè to cultivate social cohesion and living together, for I remain convinced that our unity is our greatest strength in the face of current challenges.

“Finally, I invite all my compatriots to turn their thoughts and prayers toward our valiant fighting forces who bravely struggle for the total recovery of our lands and the sovereignty of our country.

“Happy Maouloud celebration to all!”

Traoré signed the message as President of Faso and Head of State, with the Presidency of Faso issuing the statement on his behalf.

The President’s message comes as Burkina Faso continues to face security challenges, with his administration placing emphasis on national sovereignty, social cohesion and support for the country’s security forces.

The statement concluded with the national slogan: “The Homeland or Death, We Shall Overcome.”
