We’re with you, Former IGPs tell IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu

INTERNATIONAL, 2 April 2026 (NPA) — Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has received the backing of five former leaders of the Force. On Tuesday, 31 March 2026, former Inspectors General Aliyu Attah, Mike Okiro, Ogbonna Onovo, Suleiman Abba, and Usman Alkali Baba visited Force Headquarters to express their support.
In a statement on Thursday, the Nigeria Police noted that the former IGPs understand the demands of the office, having faced its challenges firsthand. They acknowledged the sleepless nights, difficult decisions and responsibility of leading the Force under national scrutiny.
Despite these challenges, they offered mentorship and practical advice, stressing that Disu does not lead alone. Their guidance centred on sustaining reforms, leading with intelligence, protecting officers, and never taking the trust of Nigerians for granted.
The Inspector General received their counsel with humility, expressing confidence in his role. He recognised that he is building on decades of institutional history shaped by his predecessors, viewing this not as a burden but as a privilege.
“The foundation is strong, and the path forward is clear,” the statement concluded.
