Tanzania, Senegal set for CAF U-17 AFCON final in Rabat

RABAT, Morocco (NPA) — Tanzania and Senegal will face off in the final of the TotalEnergies CAF Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2026 on Tuesday night in Rabat, as both sides seek continental glory after impressive campaigns.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced that the final will take place at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat, with kick-off scheduled for 8:00 p.m. local time (7:00 p.m. GMT).
The match will bring together two teams that have demonstrated resilience, discipline and mental strength throughout the tournament.
Tanzania will be aiming to win the U-17 AFCON title for the first time in its history, while Senegal will seek to further strengthen its reputation as one of Africa’s leading producers of young football talent.
Both finalists secured their places in the championship match through dramatic penalty shootout victories after tightly contested semi-final encounters.
Tanzania reached the final for the first time after defeating Egypt 4-3 on penalties following a goalless draw. The achievement marks another milestone in an outstanding campaign by the Serengeti Boys.
The East Africans have enjoyed notable success at the youth level in recent years, winning the CAF African Schools Football Championship boys’ title in both 2024 and 2025, with several members of that generation now featuring in the U-17 squad.
Senegal’s path to the final was equally dramatic. The Young Lions of Teranga edged hosts Morocco 7-6 on penalties after a thrilling 1-1 draw in front of a passionate home crowd in Rabat.
Before the final, Morocco and Egypt will contest the third-place playoff on Monday, June 1, as both sides look to end their campaigns on a positive note.
Meanwhile, all four semi-finalists — Tanzania, Senegal, Morocco, and Egypt — have qualified for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar later this year. They will be joined by losing quarter-finalists Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Mali, and Algeria, as well as playoff winners Mozambique and Uganda.
