Shettima urges Code of Conduct Bureau to stay apolitical, embrace digitisation

ABUJA, Nigeria (NPA) — Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, has charged the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to uphold strict independence and resist political influence to function with integrity, transparency, and accountability.

Shettima gave the directive on Friday while receiving a delegation from the Bureau led by its Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Usman Bello, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. He congratulated Bello and his team on their assumption of office but cautioned them against being drawn into controversies. “Remain steadfast. Be as apolitical as humanly possible and do your job as much as you can,” he said.

The Vice President also commended the Bureau’s ongoing digitisation process, urging it to sustain efforts to create a system that allows public officers to declare assets and liabilities electronically from any location. He noted that such reforms would eliminate delays and inefficiencies associated with paper forms, while aligning Nigeria’s practices with global standards.

Acknowledging the changing world, Shettima stressed that the Bureau must adapt to modern realities and continue building credibility through innovation and independence.
