Oyebanji describes re-election victory as mandate for greater service

ADO-EKITI, Nigeria (NPA) — Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has described his victory in Saturday’s governorship election as a clear expression of the will of the people and a renewed mandate to deepen development across the state.

In a statement following his re-election, Oyebanji said the outcome of the poll reflected the confidence of Ekiti residents in his administration and its development agenda.

“The voice of the people has reverberated from every part of our great state, and the message is clear,” the governor said.

“I am deeply humbled by the scale of this victory. Securing a clean sweep across all 16 local government areas and about 85 per cent of the popular vote is a humbling vote of confidence from Ekiti Kete.”

According to him, voters across both urban and rural communities had spoken with one voice in support of continuity, stability and sustainable development.

“From our urban centres to our most remote communities, you have spoken with one thunderous voice for continuous development, stability and a future of endless opportunities,” he said.

Oyebanji said the renewed mandate would inspire his administration to work harder and ensure that the benefits of governance reach every household in the state.

“This mandate means that our work must touch every household even deeper. There are no winners or losers today; there is only one united Ekiti determined to continue its journey of progress and prosperity,” he added.

The governor pledged to continue leading with humility, fairness and dedication, while thanking residents for what he described as a historic show of support.

Newpost Africa reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Oyebanji the winner of the election after he secured 319,224 votes.

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 40,543 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate garnered 12,872 votes.

Oyebanji won in all 16 local government areas of the state.

According to INEC, he polled 38,026 votes in Ado-Ekiti Local Government Area, 29,278 votes in Irepodun/Ifelodun, 28,258 votes in Ekiti West, 26,508 votes in Ikole and 25,506 votes in Ijero Local Government Area.
