AKURE, Nigeria (NPA) — The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old man, identified as Nsikak Kingsley, for allegedly beating his 65-year-old father, Adone Peter, to death following a violent altercation in Akure.

The incident occurred in Oda Community, Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State, and has sparked concern among residents of the area.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly engaged his father in a heated confrontation on May 28, 2026, which escalated into a physical assault.

The police said the deceased sustained severe injuries, particularly to the head, during the incident and was rushed to a medical facility for treatment.

However, he was later confirmed dead by medical personnel while receiving care.

The matter was reported to the police by Daniel Moses, a son of the deceased and brother to the suspect, prompting detectives to launch an investigation.

Police operatives subsequently arrested the suspect, who is currently in custody.

The remains of the deceased have been deposited in a mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

The police said the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Felix Ohagwu, condemned the alleged act, describing it as unfortunate, reprehensible and contrary to societal values.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring justice is served and warned that anyone found culpable of criminal offences would face the full weight of the law.

The commissioner also urged members of the public to reject violence and embrace peaceful means of resolving disputes, particularly within families and communities.

He further encouraged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities and criminal incidents to security agencies.
