Nigerian Railway Corporation confirms Warri–Itakpe train accident

LAGOS, Nigeria (NPA) — The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed that an incident involving the Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS) occurred on Monday, with emergency response teams deployed to the scene.
In a statement issued on Monday evening by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Dr Kayode Opeifa, the Corporation said relevant authorities were already attending to the situation and providing necessary assistance to affected passengers and other individuals involved.
The NRC, however, did not immediately disclose the nature of the incident or whether there were any casualties or injuries.
According to the Corporation, it is closely monitoring developments while efforts continue at the scene.
“Emergency response teams and relevant authorities are currently at the scene attending to the situation and providing necessary assistance,” the statement said.
The Corporation assured the public that a detailed statement would be released as soon as more information becomes available.
It also urged Nigerians to remain calm and rely only on official channels for verified information regarding the incident.
Further details are expected as investigations and emergency response efforts continue.
