IBADAN, Nigeria (NPA) — The Oyo State Police Command has issued a strong rebuttal to claims circulating online that one of the schoolchildren abducted during the recent incident at Ahoro‑Esiele, Oriire Local Government Area, has died in captivity.

In a press release signed by DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), the Command described the report as false, misleading, mischievous, and entirely without factual basis. It stressed that neither the Police Command nor any other recognised security agency involved in the ongoing rescue operations has confirmed such a development.

The statement condemned the publication as a fabrication designed to arouse public sentiment, create panic, and undermine security efforts.

The Command expressed concern that the authors of the report deliberately employed emotional narratives and speculative claims to manipulate public opinion. It warned that such conduct not only violates the principles of responsible journalism but also plays into the hands of criminal elements who thrive on fear and uncertainty.

Reassuring residents, the Command emphasised that rescue operations remain ongoing with professionalism, diligence, and confidentiality. It cautioned that the spread of false information at such a critical time could jeopardise security efforts, traumatise affected families, and mislead the public.

Consequently, the Command strongly warned individuals, bloggers, social media influencers, and media platforms against amplifying unverified security‑related information. It urged all stakeholders to exercise responsibility and due diligence, reminding them that official updates will only be issued through the Nigeria Police Force and other authorised government channels.

The Oyo State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to public safety and security, pledging to keep residents appropriately informed of verified developments as circumstances warrant.
