IGP Disu congratulates police academy cadets on debate competition victory

ABUJA, Nigeria (NPA) — Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun Disu, has congratulated cadets of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, following their victory at the 2026 RIL Campus Crown Awards Debate Competition.
The cadets emerged champions after outperforming participants from various universities and tertiary institutions across Kano State in the highly competitive contest.
The RIL Campus Crown Awards is a youth-focused initiative that provides students with opportunities to showcase their talents through leadership debates, sports competitions and other developmental activities aimed at promoting critical thinking, teamwork and responsible citizenship.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, the Nigeria Police Academy team distinguished itself through exceptional analytical reasoning, eloquence, intellectual depth and public speaking skills to secure the overall prize.
Reacting to the achievement, the Inspector-General described the victory as a reflection of the quality of academic and leadership training being provided at the academy.
He noted that intellectual excellence remains an essential component of modern policing and commended the cadets for representing the institution and the Nigeria Police Force with distinction.
The IGP encouraged the students to maintain the culture of excellence, discipline and professionalism that earned them the recognition.
The victorious team was also received by the Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy, Assistant Inspector-General of Police Patrick Atayero, who praised the cadets for bringing honour to the institution.
Atayero described the success as evidence of the academy’s commitment to producing well-rounded police officers equipped with both professional competence and intellectual capacity.
He urged other cadets to pursue excellence in academics and extracurricular activities, assuring them of the academy’s continued support in developing their talents and leadership abilities.
The commandant further reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the academy’s vision of becoming a world-class institution dedicated to professional policing, leadership development and academic excellence.
The Nigeria Police Force said it remains committed to strengthening educational and leadership development programmes across its institutions as part of efforts to build a highly professional, knowledge-driven and service-oriented police organisation capable of addressing contemporary security challenges.
