Hamzat meets Lagos Muslim, Christian leaders ahead of 2027 governorship election

LAGOS, Nigeria (NPA) — The Lagos State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Obafemi Hamzat, has met with the Grand Chief Imam of Lagos State, His Eminence, Sheikh (Engr.) Sulaimon Oluwatoyin Abou-Nolla, as part of his engagements with religious leaders ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Hamzat also met with other Divisional Imams across the state during the visit.

In a statement he personally issued on Saturday, Hamzat said Lagos’ diversity remained one of the state’s greatest strengths, adding that he was committed to building on it as he seeks election as governor in next year’s election.

The statement reads in part:

“I visited the Grand Chief Imam of Lagos State, His Eminence, Sheikh (Engr.) Sulaimon Oluwatoyin Abou-Nolla, alongside other Divisional Imams across the State.

“I am always encouraged by conversations that remind us of what we can achieve when we put Lagos first.

“Our diversity is one of our greatest strengths and I remain committed to building on that strength as we move forward together.”

Earlier, Hamzat had also visited the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), led by Bishop Stephen Adegbite, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission.

Speaking after the engagement, Hamzat expressed appreciation for the reception and the opportunity to discuss the state’s future.

“I appreciate the warm welcome and the opportunity to share thoughts on our Lagos and the future we are building together.

“I remain confident that with unity and a shared commitment to our people, we can build a Lagos that works for everyone,” he said.
