Ghana police interdict eight officers after fatal shooting in Western North Region

ACCRA, Ghana (NPA) — The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into a shooting incident at Sayerano in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region that left two people dead and three others injured.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Western North Regional Police Command said the incident occurred following a confrontation between members of the Sayerano community and a police patrol team.
According to the police, three people sustained gunshot wounds during the incident. Two later died from their injuries, while three others are receiving treatment at the Asafo Roman Catholic Hospital.
The command announced that all eight police officers involved in the operation had been interdicted pending the outcome of the investigation.
It added that the Inspector-General of Police had directed the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The police said calm had been restored in the community and expressed appreciation to traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders for their cooperation in maintaining peace.
The Western North Regional Police Command assured the public that the investigation would be thorough and that further updates would be provided as the inquiry progresses.
