Injured Ronaldo sends good wishes to Al-Nassr ahead of Neom SC clash

SPORTS (NPA) — March 7, 2026 — Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, forward for Al-Nassr Football Club, has extended his best wishes to his teammates as they face Neom SC in the Saudi Pro League today. The match kicks off at 20:00 local time at Al-Awwal Park Stadium in Riyadh.

Ronaldo, who sustained a hamstring injury on March 2 during Al-Nassr’s 3–1 win over Al-Fayha, was substituted in the 80th minute after signalling discomfort. On his official X account, he posted: “Recovering and ready to watch the game today. Let’s go, Al Nassr! 🟡🔵.” The message was accompanied by a photo of him undergoing treatment.

Following medical assessments, the injury was confirmed to be more serious than initially thought, requiring rehabilitation in Madrid. However, reports indicate his participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Portugal remains unaffected.

As of the time of publication, it is still uncertain when Ronaldo will return to action for Al-Nassr.

Arsenal Eye Crucial Win Against Chelsea to Keep Title Hopes Alive

NEWPOST AFRICA SPORTS: Arsenal head into Sunday’s London derby knowing victory over Chelsea is vital to maintain their lead over Manchester City in the Premier League title race.

The Gunners, who last beat Chelsea three times in a single season during their 2003–04 title-winning campaign, have shown both resilience and vulnerability this term. After dropping points in consecutive draws against Brentford and Wolves, Mikel Arteta’s side bounced back with a commanding 4–1 win over Tottenham last weekend.

City remain five points behind with a game in hand and face Leeds, a side that nearly held them earlier in the season. Anything less than three points for Arsenal could tighten the race at the top.

Chelsea, unbeaten under new manager Liam Rosenior except against Arsenal, will be eager to avoid a third defeat to their rivals this season. Despite losing twice in the League Cup semifinals, they managed a league draw in November despite playing with ten men.

Arteta insists past results mean little: “Every game is different. We know the importance of this match and we must prepare to earn the right to win,” he said.

He praised Chelsea’s adaptability under Rosenior, noting Arsenal must be ready for tactical shifts.

With Arsenal’s recent struggles against top-six opponents at home, Sunday’s clash promises to be a defining moment in the title race.

Real Madrid Beat Benfica 1–0 to Keep Round of 16 Hopes Alive

Spanish giants Real Madrid secured a crucial 1–0 victory over Benfica on Tuesday night in Lisbon, taking a valuable first-leg advantage in their UEFA Champions League knockout play-off. The high-intensity clash at Estadio da Luz drew over 66,000 fans, who witnessed Vinícius Júnior break the deadlock in the 50th minute with a superb strike from outside the box.

Real Madrid controlled possession with 56% and looked more composed in midfield, while Benfica struggled to convert their attacking opportunities into clear chances.

The match, however, was overshadowed by controversy. Vinícius Júnior alleged that he was subjected to racist abuse from Benfica’s Gianluca Prestianni, prompting a 10-minute stoppage as the referee implemented UEFA’s anti-racism protocols. The incident cast a shadow over what was otherwise a fiercely contested encounter. Benfica’s manager, José Mourinho, was shown a red card after an outburst defending his player, leaving questions over whether UEFA will uphold or overturn the sanction.

Real Madrid’s defence displayed discipline and resilience, repelling Benfica’s late pressure and ensuring the narrow lead was preserved. The Portuguese side had previously denied Los Blancos automatic qualification in the group stage, forcing them into this play-off. With the result, Real Madrid head into the second leg at Santiago Bernabéu on February 24–25, 2026, with momentum and a strong chance of progressing to the round of 16 in Europe’s elite competition.

Tijjani Reijnders who shot from his left foot from the centre of the box.

I am so happy, my dear friend, so absorbed in the exquisite sense of mere tranquil existence, that I neglect my talents. I should be incapable of drawing a single stroke at the present moment; and yet I feel that I never was a greater artist than now.
