Police arrest four banditry suspects, recover ak‑47 rifles and ammunition

ABUJA, Nigeria (NPA) — The Nigeria Police Force has announced the arrest of four suspected bandits and the recovery of firearms and ammunition in Kaduna State, marking a significant operational breakthrough.

According to a statement issued on April 27, 2026, by DCP Anthony Okon Placid, Force Public Relations Officer, the suspects — Abdumumini Abubakar (40), Maikano Gambo (47), Saleh Thompson (47), and Oyonyi Odango (40) — were arrested on March 7, 2026, in Tayu, Sanga Local Government Area, following credible intelligence.

Items recovered from the suspects include:

  • Four AK‑47 rifles with magazines
  • Eighty rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ammunition
  • One locally fabricated pistol with twenty rounds of 9mm ammunition

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are linked to banditry and other violent criminal activities within the region. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend fleeing members of the network and recover additional weapons.

Inspector‑General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended the operatives for their professionalism and reiterated the Force’s commitment to combating banditry and safeguarding lives and property nationwide.
