Mahama rallies Black Stars ahead of Panama clash at 2026 FIFA World Cup

ACCRA, Nigeria (NPA) President John Dramani Mahama has extended a heartfelt message of solidarity and encouragement to the Black Stars as Ghana prepares to face Panama in its opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Toronto.
According to a statement released by the Presidency, signed Felix Kwakye Ofosu (MP), Spokesperson to the President, Minister, Government Communications, President Mahama reaffirmed that the Government and people of Ghana stand firmly behind the national team as they embark on their fifth World Cup campaign.
He urged the players to represent the nation with courage, unity, and pride, reminding them that they carry the hopes and dreams of over thirty million Ghanaians.
“You carry more than a ball,” the President said. “You are carrying the hopes, dreams, and heritage of a people. From the streets of Chorkor to the plains of Bole, every Ghanaian heart beats in sync with yours.”
Mahama also called on Ghanaians in Toronto and across North America to serve as the team’s “12th Man,” urging them to fill the stands with the red, gold, and green while letting the rhythms of Ghanaian drums echo through the stadium.
At home, the President assured citizens that no one would be left behind, announcing that official television broadcast rights have been secured to ensure nationwide access to every Black Stars match — from Axim to Bawku, and from Ho to Hamile.
“Play for the flag. Play for the children dreaming of greatness in your footsteps,” Mahama declared, expressing confidence that the Black Star will shine brighter than ever before on the global stage.
The message, signed by Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, captures the spirit of national unity and pride as Ghana’s football heroes prepare to represent the country in Toronto.
