Kwara police warn officers against misconduct, indiscipline

ILORIN, Nigeria (NPA) — The Kwara State Police Command has warned its officers and personnel against misconduct, indiscipline and unprofessional conduct, declaring that acts capable of bringing the Nigeria Police Force into disrepute will no longer be tolerated.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ojo Adekimi, issued the warning during a strategic briefing with Deputy Commissioners of Police, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Tactical Commanders and other senior officers.

According to the commissioner, the directive aligns with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to strengthen professionalism, accountability and discipline within the Force.

Adekimi stressed that the era of impunity among police personnel was over and urged officers to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the integrity and values of the Nigeria Police Force.

He cautioned officers to be mindful of their actions, utterances and behaviour while carrying out official duties, noting that advances in digital technology and social media have placed public officials under constant scrutiny.

The police commissioner warned that any officer found engaging in misconduct, abuse of authority, extortion, harassment, incivility or any act capable of tarnishing the image of the Force would face disciplinary action in accordance with established regulations.

Adekimi also reminded officers of the provisions of the Force’s Social Media Policy, warning against the unauthorised dissemination of official information and online activities that could compromise operational security or damage the reputation of the police.

As part of efforts to strengthen community policing and improve public safety, he directed all Divisional Police Officers to intensify engagement with religious leaders, school proprietors, principals and other key stakeholders within their areas of responsibility.

The commissioner emphasised the need for stronger collaboration between communities and the police in securing schools, places of worship and other vulnerable public facilities against emerging security threats.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to professionalism, intelligence-led policing, accountability and community partnership.

Adekimi assured residents of Kwara State that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property, improving service delivery and enforcing discipline among its personnel.
