IGP Disu orders security reinforcement after Jos attack, wants perpetrators arrested

ABUJA, NIGERIA, 01 April 2026 (NPA) — Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has condemned the Sunday killings of innocent people in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State in the north-central, and has ordered massive deployment of security assets to the area to restore calm and ensure the arrest of the perpetrators.
In a statement on Wednesday, Force Public Relations Officer Anthony Okon Placid said the IGP commiserates with the Governor of Plateau State and the people, particularly affected families and residents of Angwan Rukuba, over the incident.
In response, Disu had earlier deployed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Umar Shehu Nadada, to Plateau State to assess the situation, coordinate operations, and strengthen security measures.
The Inspector-General has further intensified efforts through additional tactical teams, Police Mobile Force units, and intelligence operatives, working with other agencies to tackle security challenges and prevent further breakdown of law and order. He stated these actions will continue until normalcy returns, instructing commanders to ensure visible policing and engage vulnerable communities.
Disu urged the public to remain calm and vigilant, cooperate with security agencies, and refrain from taking the law into their own hands. He also encouraged citizens to promptly report incidents or suspicious activities to support ongoing operations.
