Nigerian Navy destroys IPOB/ESN IED cell in Imo State

IMO, NIGERIA, 29 March 2026 (NPA) — Troops of the Nigerian Navy from the Naval Base Oguta Tactical Patrol have recorded a breakthrough, neutralising an alleged IPOB/ESN improvised explosive device (IED) cell and destroying explosives during a clearance operation in Imo State.
In a statement signed by Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, Director of Naval Information, the Navy confirmed that the operation was carried out in Orsu Local Government Area, with support from other security agencies. The joint patrol targeted suspected hideouts within the Orsu‑Ihiteukwa axis, including the Mother Valley general area, long believed to be a stronghold of criminal elements.
During the mission, troops encountered multiple IEDs, confirming the existence of an active bomb‑making network. Subsequent exploitation led to the discovery of a facility where naval personnel executed a coordinated ambush, neutralising two IED specialists. All recovered explosives were safely destroyed on site, eliminating immediate threats to civilians and security forces.
The Navy reported that all personnel and equipment remained intact, and the operation concluded successfully. It reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining aggressive, intelligence‑driven operations in collaboration with other security agencies, aimed at dismantling criminal networks and restoring lasting peace across the region.
