ABUJA, NIGERIA (NPA) — March 13, 2026 — Troops of 13 Brigade Nigerian Army repelled an ambush by suspected armed criminals while responding to a communal dispute in Odonget Community, Obubra LGA, Cross River State.
According to Major Yemi Sokoya, Assistant Director Army Public Relations, 13 Brigade, the incident occurred on March 12 when troops deployed to Ochon and Alesi received credible information about rising tensions. They mobilised swiftly, conducted patrols, and restored calm between the disputing parties.
While returning, their route was blocked, and they came under a coordinated ambush. Reinforcements from 245 Battalion, supported by armoured vehicles, enabled the troops to repel the attack. One soldier was injured and evacuated to a nearby medical facility, while four attackers were neutralised, and others fled.
Troops have since launched cordon-and-search operations in suspected communities and imposed a curfew to prevent further unrest. Brigadier General Patrick Alimikhena commended the troops’ bravery and reassured residents of the Army’s commitment to peace.
The public is urged to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and provide credible information to aid ongoing operations.
