Gov Nwifuru assures OHANIVO of continued development support at New Yam Festival

ABAKALIKI, Nigeria (NPA) — Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has assured the people of OHANIVO bloc of his administration’s continued collaboration with community leaders to accelerate development in the area.

Nwifuru gave the assurance at Oshiri Central School, Oshiri, during the OHANIVO New Yam Festival, where he commended the people for their support for his administration and urged them to continue supporting the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The governor expressed appreciation to Tinubu for his support to Ebonyi State through projects and appointments, particularly the appointment of Senator David Nweze Umahi as Minister of Works.

“We thank Mr President for his support to us as a state through projects and appointments. He gave us a Minister in charge of Works, first in our history as a state.

“To our son, the Honourable Minister, we shall set aside a day to celebrate him because he has done the state proud.”

Nwifuru said his administration would continue to work closely with leaders of the bloc to accelerate development.

According to a statement by Dr Monday Uzor, Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Nwifuru described OHANIVO as a critical component of the state’s development trajectory and pledged that government policies would continue to address the needs of the area.

The governor also said the remaining section of the Oshiri-Ugwulangwu Road would be completed after the conclusion of arrangements with the Federal Ministry of Works, noting that improved infrastructure and road networks would help reconnect communities.

Speaking at the event, Umahi said the people of OHANIVO and the southern senatorial district would support Tinubu and Nwifuru in the 2027 elections.

“When the governor is moving, I am moving with him. We have a pact with the president and the governor to do eight years in office and there is no going back on this pact,” Umahi said.

Umahi also expressed appreciation for Nwifuru’s leadership, saying, “We are grateful for the gift of Governor Nwifuru.”

In a motion moved by Chief Ifesinachi Odii and supported by Ogbuefi Enekwachi Akpa, the people of OHANIVO, comprising Ohaozara, Onicha and Ivo, expressed support for Nwifuru and urged him not to be distracted by what they described as activities of “political merchants”.

They assured the governor of their support in the 2027 general elections and said equity, fairness and social justice remained the foundation for peace and sustainable development in the state.

In his remarks, Nwifuru thanked the people of OHANIVO for their support and reaffirmed his commitment to accelerating development across the bloc.

“I deeply appreciate the people of OHANIVO for their warmth, support and continued faith in our administration. Their contributions to the development and progress of Ebonyi State remain significant.

“I reaffirmed my commitment to working closely with the leaders and people of the bloc to accelerate development across the area.

“As a critical part of Ebonyi’s development trajectory, OHANIVO will continue to receive the attention it deserves.”

The governor also commended the people for preserving their cultural heritage through the New Yam Festival.

“Beyond development, the New Yam Festival is a celebration of our heritage, unity and the enduring bonds that hold our communities together. I commend the organisers and the people of OHANIVO for preserving our rich cultural heritage.

“May the people of OHANIVO continue to prosper. Happy New Yam Festival!” he said.
