Shettima commissions Kwara garment factory, unveils 11-storey revenue house

ILORIN, Nigeria (NPA) — Vice President Kashim Shettima on Wednesday commissioned the Kwara State Garment Factory in Ilorin, a signature project of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.

The project is designed to employ at least 4,000 people when operating at full capacity.

Shettima, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the commissioning, also unveiled the 11-storey Kwara Revenue Service (KWRS) House.

In a statement, the Vice President commended Abdulrazaq’s governance record in Kwara, noting that his administration’s projects and programmes had covered areas including education, healthcare and road infrastructure connecting communities.

Shettima said the governor’s engagements with the Federal Government and development partners, particularly in his capacity as Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, were ultimately linked to the responsibility of meeting the needs of farmers, households and businesses.

Beyond the project commissioning, the Vice President attended the turbaning ceremony at the Emir’s Palace in Ilorin, where he commended what he described as the legacy of continuity sustained by Governor Abdulrazaq following his turbaning as the first Sardauna of Ilorin.

Shettima also recalled the legacy of the governor’s late father, Alhaji AbdulGaniyu Folorunsho AbdulRazaq (SAN), whom he described as the first lawyer from Northern Nigeria and the first Mutawalle of Ilorin.

He said the title remained in the family as a reflection of its bond with the Ilorin Emirate.

The Vice President said honouring deserving service was also a statement about the values and conduct a society wished to pass on to future generations.

He noted that Governor Abdulrazaq was no stranger to the Ilorin Emirate and described the turbaning as part of the emirate’s recognition of his connection and service.
