JUST IN: AAC condemns Defence Minister’s alleged partisan conduct, calls for his sack

ABUJA, Nigeria (NPA) — The African Action Congress (AAC) has condemned what it described as the alleged partisan involvement of the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd.), in campaigns for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to a statement signed by the AAC National Publicity Secretary, Rex I. Elanu, on Sunday, September 13, 2026, the party expressed concern over the reported involvement of a serving cabinet minister with a military background in partisan political mobilisation while the country continues to grapple with insecurity, killings, kidnappings and displacement.

The party said the Defence Minister’s primary responsibility should be the protection of Nigerians and the defence of the country, rather than supporting the electoral interests of a political party or its candidates.

“The Minister of Defence should be defending Nigerians, not campaigning for the APC,” the AAC said.

The party argued that Nigerian families continue to suffer the consequences of insecurity, with several communities living under the threat of armed attacks, and therefore expected the minister to focus his attention on strengthening national security.

The AAC said it considered the reported conduct particularly troubling because, in its view, the minister’s responsibility was to the Nigerian people and the defence of the nation.

It added that if Gen. Musa had chosen to take on what it described as the role of an APC campaign mobiliser, Nigerians would be entitled to demand his removal from office so he could pursue what the party called his “new found calling.”

The party also warned against the politicisation of Nigeria’s security institutions, stressing that members of the security establishment should uphold professionalism, neutrality and the national interest regardless of their personal political preferences.

According to the AAC, Nigeria does not need political speeches about unity while insecurity continues to claim lives, but rather competent leadership, accountability and a government capable of protecting its citizens.

The party subsequently called on Nigerians to reject what it described as “the politics of impunity and failed leadership” in the 2027 elections and support what it called a genuine political alternative committed to the “Total Liberation of Nigeria.”

“Freedom is on the ballot. Vote AAC!” the party said.
