Delta Police arrest two suspects, recover two pump-action guns, 18 cartridges, weapons

ASABA, Nigeria (NPA) — The Delta State Police Command has recorded further operational successes in its efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal firearms and combat violent crime across the state, with operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) and Command Anti-Cult Unit (CACU) arresting two suspects and recovering two pump-action guns, 18 live cartridges and other dangerous items in separate intelligence-led operations.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, on Sunday, September 13, 2026, the command said the operations were carried out in Obiaruku and Ndokwa West Local Government Area.

VCRU arrests suspect, recovers gun, 18 cartridges

On September 12, 2026, operatives of the VCRU, acting on credible intelligence, stormed a residence in Obiaruku following information that the occupant was allegedly in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The command said the suspect, Joel Iwomi, 36, of Umuebu, Obiaruku, resisted the operatives’ attempt to gain access to the premises.

According to the statement, the operatives eventually gained entry and conducted a search of the residence, during which one pump-action gun and 18 live cartridges were recovered.

Iwomi was arrested and taken into custody, while investigation into the matter is ongoing.

CACU arrests suspect, recovers gun, daggers, battle axe

In a separate intelligence-led operation conducted on September 9, 2026, operatives of the CACU arrested Chukwuka Nzete, also known as “Ododo”, of Isupe Community in Ndokwa West LGA.

The police said Nzete was suspected of involvement in the illegal sale and proliferation of firearms and allegedly operated a shrine where suspected criminal elements were fortified.

A search of his residence, according to the command, led to the recovery of one pump-action gun, four dagger knives, one battle axe and pots containing substances suspected to be charms.

The suspect was taken into custody as investigation continues to determine the full extent of his activities and possible links with other criminal elements.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, psc, mnips, reaffirmed the command’s resolve to deny criminal elements access to illicit firearms and other weapons capable of threatening public safety.

Erale also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly provide credible information about suspicious persons, illegal firearms and criminal activities in their communities.

The commissioner assured residents that actionable information supplied to the police would be treated with the necessary confidentiality.
