INEC releases final list of 18 presidential candidates for 2027 election

ABUJA, Nigeria (NPA) — The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of 18 presidential candidates and their running mates for the 2027 general election.

The list, contained in a document signed by the Secretary to the Commission, Dr Rose Oriaran-Anthony, and released on Saturday in Abuja, comprises candidates sponsored by 18 political parties.

The final list shows that 16 of the presidential candidates are male, while two are female.

The leading candidates include President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and former Anambra State governor Peter Gregory Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The two female presidential candidates are Ada Elizabeth Fredrick Okwori of the National Democratic Party (NDP) and Nkem Esther Okereke of the National Rescue Movement (NRM).

Other presidential candidates on the list are Adewole Ebenezer Adebayo of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress (AAC), Donald Duke of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Sunday Chibuzo Okereke of the Labour Party (LP), and Sandy Ojang Onor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Also on the final list are Rufai Adekunle Omo-Aje of the Action Alliance (AA), Aliyu Abbas-Bin of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Kabiru Yusuf of the Action Peoples Party (APP), Sunday Adenuga of the Boot Party (BP), Moses Olusoji Adebisi of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), Daniel Daberechukwu Nwanyanwu of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), and Peter Ada Agada of the Young Progressive Party (YPP).

The list also contains the names of the 18 vice-presidential candidates, including four women: Peace Egobia Ofordile of the APP, Nafisat Usaku Abubakar of the DLA, Hajja Bintu Konto of the LP and Patience Ndidi Key of the YPP.
