JUST IN: Borno Police recover stolen Honda Civic, arrest suspect in Maiduguri

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria (NPA) — The Borno State Police Command has recovered a gold-coloured Honda Civic 200 model earlier reported stolen within the Maiduguri metropolis and arrested a 48-year-old suspect in connection with the vehicle.

The recovery was made by operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID) on September 9, 2026, at about 6:00 p.m., following a report concerning the disappearance of the vehicle.

According to a statement signed on September 10, 2026, by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Nahum Kenneth Daso, the complaint was lodged by Abdulkarim Sani ‘M’ of the State Low-Cost Area, Maiduguri.

Acting on the complaint, SID operatives commenced intelligence-led surveillance within the metropolis, which led to the interception and arrest of Umar Abubakar ‘M’, 48, of the Tashan Bama area of Maiduguri.

Police said Abubakar was found in possession of the recovered vehicle.

The suspect and the vehicle are currently in police custody as discreet investigation continues.

The Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, commended the SID operatives for their vigilance and sustained intelligence-led efforts in combating crime across the state.

The Command assured members of the public that the investigation remains ongoing and that further developments would be communicated accordingly.
